As part of the second phase of the Khasab Port Development and Management Agreement and based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) signed on Thursday a framework agreement with Oman International Container Terminal Company (Hutchison Sohar Ports) to develop, manage and operate Khasab Port.
The agreement stipulates that the company will receive, manage and operate Khasab port as of the first of October 2022, provided that the company will prepare during the first and second years a detailed feasibility study on all the requirements agreed with the Ministry based on the results of the commercial study and includes: requirements for the development of the port's infrastructure, expansion plan, and mechanism of development, operation and management.
The agreement also includes the start of outlining the final negotiations, which are scheduled to begin during the third year in preparation for the signing of a long-term port development, management and operation agreement for a period of thirty years.
The agreement was signed by H.E. Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Andy Tsui, Deputy Director of Oman International Container Terminal Company for the Middle East and Africa, in the presence of H.E.
