The first workshop, titled “Green Corridors Between GCC Ports”, brought together experts and representatives from Oman and the Gulf Cooperation Council states. It focused on discussing international practices in applying the concept of green corridors and exploring opportunities to enhance maritime integration among GCC ports.

The workshop aimed to strengthen cooperation among GCC ports in the field of environmental sustainability and to support efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the maritime transport sector, in line with the International Maritime Organization’s directives and national strategies toward achieving net zero.

In his opening remarks, Eng. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rawahi, Assistant Director General for Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said:

“This technical workshop represents a practical step in advancing the Green Corridors initiative and builds on what was endorsed at last year’s ministerial meeting. It paves the way for implementing the initiative on the ground in line with the current capacities of our ports.”

He added:

“Through this gathering, we look forward to presenting practical proposals for the first pilot corridors, exchanging technical expertise on possible environmental incentives, and identifying technical focal points to help follow up and coordinate efforts in the next phase.”

Al Rawahi emphasized that the insights and proposals emerging from the workshop would be an important contribution to the upcoming ministerial meeting, supporting sustainable maritime transport and furthering the integration of GCC ports.
