Telecommunications and Postal
The Telecommunications and Postal Department is responsible for preparing and submitting periodic reports on the performance indicators of the telecommunications and postal fields, as well as cooperating and coordinating with units of the state administrative apparatus and the private sector in all matters related to these two fields. It also monitors the development of infrastructure, technical services, skills, and expertise associated with them, ensuring their alignment with the state’s general policies.
The department also undertakes studies and field research to identify challenges and legislative and regulatory needs in the two fields, promotes and develops areas of cooperation with relevant entities locally, regionally, and globally, including specialized organizations and institutions, and follows up on the implementation of related agreements in coordination with the concerned authorities. Additionally, it works on developing the postal services sector and enhancing the efficiency and quality of its services.

The telecommunications Department is responsible for the following:
- Overseeing public policies and strategic plans related to the communications sector and monitoring their implementation in coordination with relevant departments.
- Reviewing and proposing laws and regulations in cooperation with the concerned authorities.
- Preparing and submitting periodic reports related to the performance indicators of the communications sector.
- Conducting field studies and research to identify challenges and legislative and regulatory needs within the sector.
- Developing appropriate governance mechanisms to address challenges and meet sector requirements related to communications.
- Following up on communications-related matters submitted to the Ministry.
- Enhancing and developing cooperation in the communications sector with relevant entities in countries and with specialized regional and international organizations and institutions, and monitoring the implementation of related agreements in coordination with the concerned authorities.

The Postal Department is responsible for the following:
- Developing the postal services sector.
- Reviewing and proposing laws and regulations in cooperation with the concerned authorities.
- Preparing public policies and strategic plans related to postal services.
- Preparing and submitting periodic reports on the performance indicators of the postal sector.
- Conducting field studies and research to identify challenges and legislative and regulatory needs in the sector, and developing appropriate governance mechanisms to address these challenges and meet sector requirements.
- Enhancing and developing cooperation in the postal sector with relevant entities in countries and with specialized regional and international organizations and institutions, and monitoring the implementation of related agreements in coordination with the concerned authorities.
- Following up on postal-related matters submitted to the Ministry.
Upcoming events approved annually by the esteemed Council of Ministers
The Ministry, represented by the Telecommunications and Postal Sector, is responsible for celebrating the annual events approved by the esteemed Council of Ministers, in a manner that reflects the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to participation in the fields of telecommunications and postal services, and contributes to highlighting the sector’s role in supporting digital transformation and enhancing public awareness. This includes celebrating World Telecommunication and Information Society Day on 17 May each year, and World Post Day on 9 October each year, in accordance with the themes and focus areas adopted by each relevant union, and in alignment with national priorities and the state’s strategic directions.

Membership in International and Regional Organizations
The Ministry is keen to strengthen the Sultanate of Oman’s regional and global presence in the fields of telecommunications, information technology, and postal services, through its active participation and influential membership in specialized regional and international organizations. This enables the sector to contribute to shaping directions, strategies, and policies related to the telecommunications and postal fields, participate in the work of technical committees and working groups, and transfer global best practices, thereby supporting the development of national policies and enhancing their alignment with international frameworks and standards.
