Efficient ports for a stronger economy
The ports sector in the Sultanate of Oman is a vital contributor to the national economy. Supervised by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, the sector focuses on the development and operation of ports. It aims to improve port efficiency, expand capacity, and enhance related logistics services. The ministry also seeks to position
the Sultanate of Oman as a regional logistics hub by leveraging its strategic location on global trade routes, in line with Oman Vision 2040.

Oman is connected to various parts of the world thru its strategic ports and is investing exceptionally in developing the system of these ports that extend along its coasts, thru an integrated logistics system to meet the requirements of Oman Vision 2040 for enhancing economic diversification, improving the competitiveness of the logistics economic movement, and accelerating trade between East and West with high efficiency.
The Ministry is the legislative and regulatory authority for the ports sector in the Sultanate of Oman. This is achieved thru licensing activities in accordance with concession agreements concluded with port operators, supervising these activities, and contributing to the development of infrastructure to enhance performance to the best international standards and practices. This falls within the framework of the Ministry's strategic plan to maintain infrastructure, inspect the safety of assets, optimize the use of existing ports, promote investments in this field, and attract global operators to Omani ports.

- Prepare the annual plan and supervise commercial and industrial ports in the Sultanate of Oman.
- Follow up with port operators and periodically inspect port assets.
- Develop policies regulating the port sector in the Sultanate of Oman and oversee their implementation after approval.
- Establish licensing and permits for marine berths outside ports to regulate activities related to their facilities.
- Prepare necessary research and studies in the port sector in cooperation with relevant authorities to enhance the sector's global competitiveness and continuously develop it.
