Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Sudan sign memorandum of understanding on ports, transport and logistics

H.E. Eng. Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, received H.E. Saif Al Nasr Al Tijani, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Sudan. During the meeting, the two sides discussed areas of cooperation between the two brotherly countries in the fields of transport, ports, and logistics, and explored ways to further strengthen collaboration in support of their shared interests.

As part of the visit, the Sultanate of Oman, represented by Asyad Ports and Free Zones, a subsidiary of Asyad Group, and the Republic of Sudan, represented by the Sudan Sea Ports Corporation, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of ports, maritime transport, and logistics. The MoU seeks to support economic development, enhance supply chain capabilities, and strengthen maritime integration between the two brotherly countries.

The MoU focuses on a number of areas of mutual interest, including the exchange of expertise in port planning and development, maritime infrastructure, and port facilities. It also provides for the organisation of training programmes, workshops, exchange visits, and the sharing of technical and administrative knowledge and expertise between specialists from both sides.

In addition, the MoU promotes cooperation in adopting international best practices in digital transformation and implementing advanced systems and technologies in port management and operations, contributing to enhanced operational efficiency and improved service quality.

The MoU represents an important step towards exploring future cooperation opportunities and joint projects that can support maritime trade flows and strengthen logistics connectivity between the two brotherly countries.

The MoU was signed on behalf of the Omani side by Omar bin Mahmood Al Mahrizi, Chief Executive Officer of Asyad Ports and Free Zones, while it was signed on behalf of the Sudanese side by H.E. Eng. Gilani Mohamed Gilani, Director General of the Sudan Sea Ports Corporation, Republic of the Sudan.
