Green Corridors Between GCC Ports

The first workshop, titled “Green Corridors Between GCC Ports”, brought together experts and representatives from Oman and the Gulf Cooperation Council states. It focused on discussing international practices in applying the concept of green corridors and exploring opportunities to enhance maritime integration among GCC ports. The workshop aimed to strengthen cooperation among GCC ports in the field of environmental sustainability and to support efforts to reduce carbon emissions in the maritime transport sector, in line with the International Maritime Organization’s directives and national strategies toward achieving net zero.

In his opening remarks, Eng. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rawahi, Assistant Director General for Maritime Affairs at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said:“This technical workshop represents a practical step in advancing the Green Corridors initiative and builds on what was endorsed at last year’s ministerial meeting. It paves the way for implementing the initiative on the ground in line with the current capacities of our ports.”

He added: “Through this gathering, we look forward to presenting practical proposals for the first pilot corridors, exchanging technical expertise on possible environmental incentives, and identifying technical focal points to help follow up and coordinate efforts in the next phase. ”Al Rawahi emphasized that the insights and proposals emerging from the workshop would be an important contribution to the upcoming ministerial meeting, supporting sustainable maritime transport and furthering the integration of GCC ports.

Gulf Youth Driving Change in Sustainable Mobility

The second workshop, titled “Gulf Youth Driving Change in Sustainable Mobility”, focused on raising youth awareness of the importance of electric vehicles as part of the shift to sustainable energy. It featured interactive and practical sessions that gave young participants the opportunity to understand EV technologies and their role in achieving sustainability goals, while also building a regional network of like-minded individuals interested in sustainability and technology. As part of the hands-on experience, a dedicated track was provided for test-driving electric vehicles, alongside live demonstrations on the benefits of EVs and the operation of charging stations. A practical simulation of EV charging was also carried out, offering participants a tangible experience that showcased the significant potential of this technology and encouraged its adoption.

The workshop also launched a youth challenge that invited participants to design initiatives promoting the adoption of electric vehicles. The challenge focused on two main tracks: awareness campaigns highlighting the importance of green mobility, and innovative technical projects that contribute to the development of sustainable transport. The initiative gave young people the chance to propose creative solutions, share ideas with peers across the region, and explore ways to accelerate the shift toward green mobility in the Gulf. At the conclusion of the challenge, youth teams presented their initiatives before an evaluation panel. The most outstanding initiatives were selected based on creativity, innovation, social impact, and feasibility. The winning teams will be announced at the closing session of the Forum.
