Policies and Governance

In light of the rapid digital transformation witnessed by the Sultanate of Oman and the increasing reliance of various sectors on modern technologies, the new Information Technology Crimes Law issued by Royal Decree No. (61/2026) establishes a modern legislative framework that keeps pace with this development and strengthens the country’s cybersecurity system. The law aims to provide comprehensive protection for data and information systems and to address emerging cybercrimes in all their forms, including violations of privacy, electronic fraud, misuse of information technology tools, and crimes related to emerging technologies.

The law also contributes to enhancing legal deterrence and raising the level of criminal protection in the digital environment, while developing procedures related to investigation, evidence, and criminal proceedings in information technology cases. This ensures a secure and reliable digital environment that supports sustainable development and Oman’s digital transformation in line with best legislative practices.
