Day Two of the Middle East Space Conference Reinforces the Role of Space Applications in Supporting Vital Sectors
Date Published: 27 January 2026
The second day of the second edition of the Middle East Space Conference, hosted by the Sultanate of Oman and organized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, witnessed strong international participation. More than 500 experts and executive leaders from government agencies and private sector companies representing 30 countries attended, alongside 85 speakers, including specialists and decision-makers in the space sector.
The conference continued with an intensive knowledge-driven momentum through specialized dialogue sessions focusing on the transition from strategic frameworks to practical applications of space technologies and their role in supporting vital sectors, particularly communications, security, energy, and geospatial data. These sessions saw wide participation from experts, government entities, and specialized companies.
Specialized Sessions
Sessions on the second day addressed the rapid transformations in satellite communications. Participants discussed ways to expand access coverage across the Middle East, as well as the role of satellite operators and telecommunications leaders in supporting digital inclusion and connecting remote areas. They also explored the need for dedicated communication solutions for vital sectors, foremost among them the oil and gas sector, which requires highly reliable communication infrastructures capable of operating in challenging environments.
Other sessions examined the applications of space technologies in defense and security, and their role in supporting decision-making and enhancing operational readiness. These sessions highlighted the importance of Earth observation and geospatial data in strategic planning and resource management, while also shedding light on the contributions of the Space Monitoring Center and Geographic Information Technologies (SMC) in this field.
Sessions on global Earth observation and building regional intelligence through geospatial services in GCC countries emphasized that space-based data has become a key pillar in supporting public policies, improving service efficiency, and strengthening sustainable development.
Practical Partnerships
The second day witnessed the signing of two agreements. The first was a cooperation agreement between Oman Lens Company and ATCO in the field of Earth observation and remote sensing, reflecting the conference’s direction toward transforming scientific discussions into practical partnerships that contribute to developing satellite communication solutions and expanding their benefits.
The second agreement was signed between the private sector and academic institutions to support national capacity-building in the design and manufacturing of CubeSats.
Sustainable Energy
The second day concluded by highlighting the applications of satellites in the energy sector through the presentation of practical models and real use cases, in addition to discussing the role of geospatial data in supporting the growth of this sector, enhancing its operational efficiency, and achieving sustainability goals.
