Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology Hosts Workshop on Leveraging Space Technologies to Address National Challenges

Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, represented by the National Space Programme, organised a specialised workshop titled “Identifying Priority Challenges and Leveraging Space Technologies”, bringing together government entities from the environment, agriculture, and maritime sectors, alongside private sector companies and higher education institutions.
The workshop aimed to identify key operational challenges and sector priorities, while showcasing the potential of space technologies—particularly satellite data applications—in supporting critical sectors. It also explored opportunities for collaboration between government entities and private sector companies to develop practical use cases that enhance efficiency and productivity.
Participants highlighted the importance of leveraging space-based data to support data-driven decision-making, improve natural resource management, and strengthen responses to environmental, agricultural, and maritime challenges, in line with global trends in adopting advanced technologies for sustainable development.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology continues its efforts to build national capabilities within government institutions to adopt and utilise space technologies and applications, enhancing operational efficiency and supporting the growth of the space sector as a key contributor to the digital economy. The workshop also aimed to align government entities’ needs with space-based solutions and stimulate structured demand for space services, supporting the growth of local companies operating in this field and contributing to the development of an integrated national space ecosystem.
The workshop featured a series of specialised presentations and interactive discussions focused on developing practical use cases and strengthening partnerships among stakeholders, helping to accelerate the adoption of space technologies and expand their role in supporting economic development and digital transformation in the Sultanate of Oman.
This initiative forms part of the National Digital Economy Programme and its executive programmes, including the National Space Programme, reinforcing integrated national efforts to advance the space sector in the Sultanate of Oman.
