Oman Reaffirms Commitment to Freedom of Navigation at the 137th IMO Council Session

The Sultanate of Oman has reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to the principle of freedom of navigation in accordance with international law, in a statement delivered by H.E. Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shammakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, during the Sultanate's participation in the 137th Session of the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), held in London from 6 to 10 July and concluding today.

H.E. reaffirmed the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to ensuring the security and safety of international maritime routes, safeguarding lives at sea, and ensuring the smooth flow of global trade.

On the sidelines of the 137th IMO Council Session, the Omani delegation, headed by H.E. Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shammakhi, met with the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization.

The meeting explored ways to strengthen cooperation and ongoing coordination between the Sultanate of Oman and the Organization in the fields of maritime security and safety, protection of the marine environment, and enhancing response and coordination to address maritime challenges.
