It also sought to familiarise entities operating in the education sector and subject to the Law and its Executive Regulations with the rights of personal data subjects and the obligations of data controllers and processors. In addition, the workshop aimed to promote sound institutional practices in the processing and protection of personal data, thereby contributing to higher levels of compliance with relevant legislation and strengthening trust in the educational environment.

The workshop covered several key topics, including the main provisions and definitions set out in the Law and its Executive Regulations, their scope of application, the rights of personal data subjects, and the obligations of data controllers and processors. It also reviewed the regulatory procedures and requirements governing the processing of personal data, as well as the mechanisms for ensuring compliance with the relevant legal provisions. The workshop further highlighted the practical aspects of personal data protection within educational institutions, including data relating to students, employees, parents and applicants seeking admission to educational institutions. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of adhering to legal requirements when collecting, processing, disclosing and retaining such data, in a manner that safeguards privacy and protects the rights of data subjects.

The Ministry's Personal Data Protection Team also presented an overview of the key services provided in this field, including permit-related services, the receipt of complaints and reports, and the procedures followed to monitor compliance with the provisions of the Law and its Executive Regulations. The presentation also highlighted the Ministry's role in providing guidance and raising awareness among entities subject to these regulations. The workshop featured interactive discussions and contributions addressing a range of practical issues and challenges associated with implementing the Law's provisions in the education sector. Specialists from the Ministry responded to participants' enquiries and provided the necessary clarifications regarding the relevant legal and procedural requirements. This workshop forms part of a series of awareness initiatives and programmes organized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology in cooperation with various sectors and institutions across the Sultanate of Oman. These efforts aim to promote a culture of personal data protection, enhance awareness of legal rights and obligations, and embed responsible institutional practices that safeguard individuals' privacy and ensure that their personal data is processed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
