Date Published: 21 October 2026
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), through Oman’s Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution and in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, organized the “Oman C4IR Technology Foresight Workshop,” bringing together national entities and institutions involved in the digital economy, foresight and future planning. The workshop formed part of the activities accompanying the launch of the second phase of the National Program for Digital Economy. The workshop sought to strengthen coordination among national stakeholders and promote the exchange of knowledge and expertise in anticipating technological shifts and exploring future opportunities, supporting Oman’s drive toward a sustainable digital economy.
It aimed to develop Oman’s technology foresight ecosystem and strengthen its practical application by introducing foresight concepts and methodologies, exploring early signals of technological change and emerging trends, and identifying opportunities and challenges at an early stage. These efforts support planning and decision-making in policy, investment and innovation, in line with Oman Vision 2040 and its aspirations for a diversified, sustainable economy founded on knowledge and innovation. The workshop featured practical exercises in applying foresight tools and methodologies, including developing and testing a roadmap extending from the present to 2040. The exercises were designed to explore the forces shaping the future, assess the potential implications of technological shifts and emerging signals, and identify the key milestones needed to achieve the desired future.
Participants also undertook practical exercises using Transformation Maps for the implementation programs under the National Program for Digital Economy. These exercises were designed to help participants identify early signals of change and emerging trends, and link them to shifts relevant to national priorities. The workshop concluded with a review of Oman’s national technology foresight model and its methodological framework, supporting the development of an integrated national approach to technology foresight. This approach seeks to strengthen cooperation and knowledge exchange among stakeholders, enhance Oman’s capacity to anticipate and prepare for technological shifts, and harness the opportunities they offer to advance digital transformation and achieve national development objectives.
