Traffic Opens on Al Mughsail Road and Bridge

Under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology opened Al Mughsail Road and Bridge to traffic in the Wilayat of Salalah as part of its efforts to enhance the efficiency of the road network in Dhofar Governorate and facilitate movement between wilayats and tourist destinations, particularly during the Khareef Dhofar season.

During his visit to the project, His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, affirmed that Dhofar Governorate continues to witness the implementation of ongoing infrastructure projects that are in line with the comprehensive development process in the Sultanate of Oman and contribute to enhancing the quality of services provided to citizens, residents and visitors.

His Highness noted that Al Mughsail Road and Bridge is one of the vital projects that will contribute to enhancing the efficiency of the governorate’s road network, improving the flow of traffic, and facilitating access to the Wilayats of Rakhyut and Dhalkut, as well as tourist destinations, thereby supporting tourism and promoting economic and social activity.

Meanwhile, H.E. Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shammakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, said in a statement to Oman News Agency that the opening of the road and bridge to traffic comes as part of the first phase of the project, while the remaining works, including the completion of aesthetic features and certain construction and service works, are continuing and are scheduled to be completed during the first quarter of next year.

He explained that the project includes the construction of a reinforced concrete bridge measuring approximately 540 metres in length, supported by 17 bridge piers and two abutments, with a height of 12 metres. The project also includes an underpass to facilitate traffic movement to nearby tourist destinations, including the Al Mughsail waterfront and Marneef Cave (Natural Blowholes).

He added that the project also includes the construction of side parking areas and a pedestrian walkway equipped with lighting, ranging in width from two to seven metres. In addition, the project has been provided with all road safety requirements, including concrete and steel barriers, directional signs and road markings, in accordance with the approved specifications set out in the Road Design Manual of the Sultanate of Oman.
