Al Mughsail Road and Bridge Project Reaches 85% Completion

The Al Mughsail Road and Bridge Project in Salalah has reached 85% completion, reflecting the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology’s efforts to enhance the efficiency of road network infrastructure and develop facilities that support the tourism assets for which Dhofar Governorate is renowned.

Khamis bin Mohammed Al Shammakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, said that the Al Mughsail Road and Bridge Project is one of the key projects that has received special attention from the ministry due to its importance as a valuable addition to the governorate’s road network.

His Excellency affirmed the ministry’s commitment to ensuring that the project combines engineering and aesthetic aspects in a manner that complements the surrounding tourist landmarks, most notably Marneef Cave and the Natural Blowholes at Al Mughsail Beach. His Excellency explained that the project includes the construction of a concrete bridge approximately 500 metres long, supported by 20 piers and two abutments, with a height of 12 metres. The project also incorporates aesthetic features and an underpass to facilitate traffic movement to nearby tourist attractions, including the Al Mughsail waterfront and Marneef Cave (Natural Blowholes).

He added that the project includes the development of side parking areas and a landscaped pedestrian walkway equipped with lighting, ranging in width from two to seven metres. The road has also been provided with all road safety requirements, including concrete and steel barriers, directional signs and warning road markings, in accordance with the standards specified in the Sultanate of Oman Road Design Manual.

His Excellency noted that traffic is expected to be opened on the road and bridge in July 2026, contributing to easier access to tourist attractions in the area and enhancing the visitor experience during tourism seasons, particularly the Khareef Dhofar season.

Meanwhile, the Undersecretary for Transport explained that a number of ongoing projects in Dhofar Governorate, as well as across the Sultanate, have already begun implementing innovative technologies in line with national priorities related to environmental sustainability, green mobility and digital transformation. These initiatives include asphalt recycling to reduce environmental waste and the use of solar panels in project facilities to reduce carbon emissions and lower operational costs.

He added that the ministry is currently enhancing the use of remote-control technologies in road paving operations. One of the most prominent applications is the implementation of smart asphalt paving technology under the Sultan Said bin Taimour Road Dualisation Project (Part Four) in Dhofar Governorate. In addition, advanced dust-control equipment is being deployed to minimise dust generated by construction activities, thereby enhancing implementation efficiency, protecting the environment and improving safety standards at project sites.
