The first section of the project, spanning 11.4 kilometres, has been completed, including street lighting and metal safety barriers. Work is currently under way on the second section, extending 3.5 kilometres, which includes converting the existing single carriageway into a dual carriageway, constructing service roads and several box culverts, in addition to lighting works, protective measures, and the installation of traffic and directional signs.

The project also includes the construction of a new roundabout near Sur College, as well as the rehabilitation and upgrading of several side access points, enhancing economic activity and meeting the needs of residents in the area.

The project is expected to improve traffic flow for road users travelling from Muscat Governorate to the Wilayat of Sur and South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, while also supporting economic and social development, enhancing infrastructure efficiency, and strengthening safe and effective connectivity in line with urban growth.
