The importance of the summit

The Sultanate of Oman is hosting the second edition of the summit, following the success of the first edition held in February 2023, as part of the national direction to achieve the goals of Oman Vision 2040. This aligns with the efforts of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology to attract quality investments in the semiconductor industry and establish a comprehensive ecosystem for this sector, enhance economic diversification, provide job opportunities for Omani cadres, localize advanced technologies, increase exports, and attract new companies in future economic sectors. The summit also allows global companies to see the progress Oman has made in this field, especially after the launch of the company (GSME-Oman), which has employed more than 100 Omanis in the design and testing of semiconductors.

Investment opportunities

The summit represents an opportunity to announce a number of strategic initiatives, the most prominent of which is the establishment of a Center of Excellence for Semiconductors and Electronic Chips and holding direct sessions and negotiations between semiconductor companies and investment and financing institutions in the Sultanate of Oman. Additionally, it will showcase the available investment incentive packages to attract companies to start their business operations. The summit also allows for the review of the latest developments in the semiconductor industry sector in various countries around the world, and facilitates communication with global companies, suppliers, and investors to enhance innovation and understand future industry trends.

Working papers

The first day of the summit included several working papers, the most notable of which was the development of semiconductor technologies to enable the era of artificial intelligence. This paper focused on innovations in chip design and the silicon stack to meet the needs of smart applications.

The summit also included a working paper on changes in the semiconductor industry and future supply chain markets, discussing the challenges and opportunities associated with global supply chains and future market trends. It highlighted Wide Bandgap semiconductors and their impact on energy and high-performance systems, illustrating the role of these materials in supporting the industrial revolution for clean energy and high-performance applications. Additionally, one of the papers focused on optomechanical systems and their role in improving sensor performance and enhancing industrial innovation.

Discussion session on investment

The agenda of the "summit" concluded its first day with a discussion session that brought together investors and company leaders to discuss investment opportunities and strategic partnerships to enhance the future of technology in the Middle East and North Africa region. The session focused on showcasing investment initiatives, exchanging expertise between the public and private sectors, and building long-term cooperative relationships, affirming the summit's role as a leading platform for showcasing the latest technological innovations and enhancing integration between companies and investors in the semiconductor industry.
