The Web Summit 2025 kicked off today in Doha, running from February 23 to 26, with the participation of over 400 investors and 1,000 tech startups. The Sultanate of Oman is participating in this global event with 24 tech startups specialized in information technology, supported by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology. The ministry aims to support the entry of Omani tech startups into regional and international markets, promote their digital products and services, and enhance opportunities for building their relationships and business partnerships.
The Omani Technological presence
His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Amer Al-Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology, stated that the Web Summit 2025 in Doha has become one of the leading international forums in the ICT sector. Oman’s participation aims to strengthen the Sultanate’s digital presence and enable emerging Omani tech startups to reach global markets. For this reason, the Ministry ensured support for these early-stage and developing companies to showcase the advanced technological capabilities of Omani youth. This participation also helps entrepreneurs gain insight into global technological trends and understand international market requirements for services, products, and digital solutions allowing them to enhance the quality of their companies’ offerings and build successful regional and international commercial partnerships with advanced technology firms.
Attracting Digital Investment
Dr. Al-Shidhani added that Oman’s participation in major technology events has increasingly enhanced global awareness of the Sultanate as a digital hub capable of hosting and developing regional and international technology ventures particularly in key sectors targeted for digital investment such as semiconductors, data centers, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. For this reason, the Ministry and participating startups are taking part under the theme “Connecting the World”, which reflects the Ministry’s strategic direction to position Oman as an attractive destination for digital investments. This aligns with the National Digital Economy Program, which aims to support economic diversification and increase the contribution of the digital economy to the national GDP.
Focus Areas
Oman’s participation at Web Summit 2025 focuses on artificial intelligence, educational technologies, robotics, the Internet of Things, and health technology. Omani tech startups will showcase their products and services in these fields, while participants will have opportunities to engage with experts and investors.
Oman’s presence at the Web Summit comes in recognition of its importance as one of the world’s leading technology gatherings. The conference is expected to attract more than 15,000 participants from 180 countries, including 400 investors and 1,000 startups.
The theme of Oman’s participation, “Connecting the World”, reflects the strategic significance of the Sultanate’s geographical location positioning it along major international internet routes as well as the many advantages that qualify Oman to be a global destination for digital investments. The theme also highlights Oman’s strategic pursuit of achieving advanced positions in digital transformation and technological progress.
