Oman and Algeria Strengthen Cooperation in Communications and Information Technology

H.E. Dr Ali bin Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology, is leading an official delegation on a three-day visit to the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria to strengthen bilateral cooperation and explore partnership opportunities in communications, information technology and digital transformation, while promoting the exchange of expertise and expanding cooperation between the two countries.

The delegation includes specialists from the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, as well as representatives from a number of specialised Omani technology companies, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening economic and technological partnerships and supporting the presence of Omani companies in regional markets.

The visit began with a meeting with H.E. Maryam Benmouloud, Minister and High Commissioner for Digitalization, during which both sides discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation in digital transformation and communications. The meeting also reviewed national experiences in developing digital services and explored areas of collaboration between the relevant institutions in both countries.

The delegation was briefed on key projects and programmes overseen by the High Commission for Digitalization, most notably the National Digital Transformation Strategy, digital infrastructure, and the Algerian National Centre for Digital Services. These initiatives reflect Algeria's experience in building an integrated digital ecosystem and open new avenues for exchanging expertise and sharing best practices.

The Omani delegation also showcased the National Digital Economy Programme, the Government Digital Transformation Programme, and national artificial intelligence initiatives. Representatives further highlighted the expertise of leading Omani companies in the digital transformation sector, presenting innovative solutions and technologies in artificial intelligence, digital government services, cybersecurity, cloud computing and software development. This showcased the breadth of Oman's digital capabilities and the ability of its technology companies to deliver innovative digital solutions.

The visit comes within the framework of the longstanding bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria and reflects the shared commitment of both countries to strengthening cooperation in the communications and information technology sector while leveraging advanced technologies to build a more competitive, knowledge- and innovation-based digital economy in support of their respective development goals.

The visit also reflects the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology's continued efforts to strengthen the presence of Omani technology companies in regional and international markets, support the growth of the information technology sector, and expand digital exports. These efforts are aligned with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, which seeks to build a knowledge- and innovation-driven economy, strengthen public-private partnerships, and enable national companies to expand into global markets.
