The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Rwanda signed four cooperation agreements and programs aimed at enhancing bilateral partnership and expanding areas of joint cooperation in the sectors of logistics, dry ports, supply chains, data centers, cloud computing, infrastructure, and artificial intelligence projects and services, in addition to enhancing air connectivity between the two countries.
The first agreement included a cooperation program in the field of logistics services, the development and operation of dry ports, and services related to supply chains, contributing to supporting logistical integration, the exchange of expertise, and capacity building in this vital sector.
The second agreement included enhancing cooperation in the fields of data centers, cloud computing, infrastructure, and artificial intelligence projects and services, with the aim of strengthening partnership between the two countries, cooperation in capacity building and skills development, the exchange of expertise and knowledge, and supporting the development of relevant policies and legislation.
Within the framework of enhancing air connectivity between the two countries, the launch of direct flights by Oman Air between Muscat and Kigali was announced, as a strategic step contributing to facilitating travel movement, supporting trade and tourism exchange, and enhancing connectivity between the Sultanate of Oman and the African continent. The flights are scheduled to commence at a rate of two flights per week starting in June 2026, subject to obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals.
The fourth agreement included a Memorandum of Understanding between the Rwanda Development Board and Oman Airports for airport management, aiming to enhance cooperation in the fields of airport development and management, the exchange of expertise, and exploring opportunities for joint investment in the aviation sector and related infrastructure.
His Excellency Eng. Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, stated: “These multiple agreements that were signed with the Republic of Rwanda in the fields of transport, communications, and information technology come within the strategic objectives of expanding international partnerships, whether in the transport and logistics sector or the communications and information technology sector, with a focus on expansion towards East Africa.”
His Excellency emphasized the importance of cooperation with the Republic of Rwanda, noting that these agreements will enhance cooperation in land transport and dry ports, promote investment and the exchange of expertise, as well as ground handling services at airports. He also noted that the agreement signed today on operating direct flights by Oman Air to the Republic of Rwanda will open new horizons in strengthening cooperation between the two countries, and it is expected that these flights will be activated in the coming summer season.
His Excellency added that these agreements open significant opportunities for cooperation in the exchange of expertise, capacities, and knowledge in the fields of digital government and data centers.
These agreements reflect the strength of bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Rwanda, and the keenness of both countries to expand horizons of economic and technological cooperation, in a manner that contributes to achieving sustainable development, supporting regional integration, and enhancing partnership between the Middle East and Africa in priority sectors.
