Oman, Algeria Strengthen Cooperation in Transport, Logistics and Digital Transformation

The Sultanate of Oman and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria signed a number of bilateral cooperation programmes in the fields of air transport, maritime transport, ports and digital transformation during an official visit by an Omani delegation headed by H.E. Eng. Said bin Hamood Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, to the Algerian capital, Algiers. 


During the visit, the Omani delegation met with H.E. Saïd Sayoud, Minister of Transport of Algeria, and officials from Algeria’s High Commission for Digitisation headed by H.E. Maryam Benmouloud, where both sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and signed several cooperation programmes across key sectors.

The Omani delegation also conducted field visits to Algiers International Airport and the Port of Arzew to review Algeria’s experience in airport management and maritime port operations.


The two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in the aviation sector, particularly in airport management and infrastructure development, through the exchange of expertise and best practices aimed at improving operational efficiency and service quality.


In the field of airport management and infrastructure, the two sides signed a draft memorandum of understanding between Oman Airports Management Company and Algeria’s Société de Gestion des Services et Infrastructures Aéroportuaires d’Alger (SGSIA), with the aim of strengthening strategic cooperation and exploring investment opportunities in airport management and operations. In the maritime transport and ports sector, a cooperation memorandum was signed between Groupe des Services Portuaires “SERPORT” and Asyad Group SAOC of the Sultanate of Oman to enhance port operation efficiency and support trade movement between the two countries.


The two parties also agreed to strengthen cooperation in the digital transformation of the transport and ports sector through the exchange of expertise and technology transfer in line with international best practices, as well as the adoption of advanced digital solutions, including Port Community Systems, to improve logistics efficiency and accelerate operational procedures. Discussions also covered the development of truck tracking and fleet management systems. With regard to maritime and port training and qualification, both sides underscored the importance of implementing joint training programmes and exchanging expertise to develop national capabilities and competencies. The discussions further addressed cooperation in maritime transport for energy materials, as well as ship repair and maintenance, through the exchange of expertise and the enhancement of technical capabilities. In the field of digital transformation, the two sides reviewed the experiences of both countries in this strategic priority area and agreed to strengthen cooperation across five key pillars: artificial intelligence and advanced technologies, digital infrastructure and data centres, digital government and e-services, digital governance and capacity building, as well as economic integration and innovation.


At the conclusion of the visit, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to following up on the implementation of the agreed initiatives and translating the signed memoranda of understanding into practical projects and initiatives that will further strengthen bilateral cooperation and deliver tangible outcomes that serve the interests of both countries.
